Air Force Aerial Achievement Military Medal

The Air Force Aerial Achievement Medal (AAM) is a military medal awarded by the United States Air Force to its personnel for meritorious achievement or service during flight operations involving regular and sustained aerial flight operations. The medal was first established in 1988 and is presented to both officers and enlisted members who have displayed exceptional skills and accomplishments in their aviation career.

The AAM is awarded for a specific meritorious achievement or significant accomplishment that is accomplished while participating in aerial flight, such as sustained performance of a highly responsible position over a period of time, achieving a specific objective, or for the significant impact of an individual’s actions on a military operation. The medal can also be awarded for sustained meritorious performance of duties involving aerial flight over a period of time.

The medal is bronze in color, with an eagle holding on a laurel wreath on one side, and the words ‘Aerial Achievement’ engraved on the reverse side. The AAM ribbon has a dark blue band in the center, flanked with yellow stripes on either side and is worn on the left side of the uniform.
